WHAT IS FOCUSED SHOCKWAVE THERAPY?

Focused Shockwave Therapy (FSWT) is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate healing in various parts of the body. It is often used to treat musculoskeletal conditions such as tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, and tennis elbow. During the FSWT procedure, a hand-held device is used to deliver high-energy acoustic waves to the affected area of the body. These acoustic waves are focused and penetrate deep into the tissue, stimulating the body's natural healing response. This results in increased blood flow, the formation of new blood vessels, and the production of collagen, which helps to repair damaged tissue.

FSWT is believed to work through a number of different mechanisms. It may reduce pain by inhibiting the transmission of pain signals to the brain, and it may also reduce inflammation by increasing blood flow and promoting the release of anti-inflammatory compounds. FSWT is typically performed on an outpatient basis and does not require anesthesia. The procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Some patients may experience some discomfort during the procedure, but this is usually well-tolerated. FSWT has been shown to be effective in treating various musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those that have not responded well to other treatments. It is generally considered safe, although it may not suit certain individuals, such as pregnant women or people with certain medical conditions. If you are interested in FSWT, it is best to consult a qualified healthcare provider to determine if it is suitable for you.

CONDITIONS TREATED BY SHOCKWAVE

Focused Shockwave Therapy (FSWT) is commonly used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those that involve chronic pain and inflammation. Some of the conditions that FSWT may be useful for include:

Plantar Fasciitis: A common condition that causes pain in the heel and bottom of the foot. FSWT has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving function in patients with plantar fasciitis.

Tendinitis: Inflammation of a tendon, often caused by overuse. FSWT may help to reduce pain and promote healing in patients with tendinitis.

Tennis Elbow: A condition that causes pain and tenderness in the outer elbow. FSWT has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving function in patients with tennis elbow.

Frozen Shoulder: A condition that causes pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint. FSWT may help to reduce pain and improve range of motion in patients with frozen shoulder.

Chronic Neck and Back Pain: FSWT may help to reduce pain and improve function in patients with chronic neck and back pain, particularly if other treatments have been unsuccessful.

Hip and Knee Pain: FSWT may be useful in treating pain and inflammation associated with hip and knee conditions such as osteoarthritis.

It is important to note that while FSWT can be effective in treating these conditions, it may not be suitable for everyone. The best way to determine if FSWT is a suitable option for you is to consult with a qualified healthcare provider.
